Finally, RSD2015 tomorrow.

Dear Journal,

Record Store Day is FINALLY tomorrow.  Dave Hause’s Home Alone EP is the #1 vinyl I want to pick up.  Anything else will be bonus points.  Keeping my eye on the prize.  We’re starting the shopping in the morning, visiting events throughout the day, and then headed to the 9:30 PM show for Lucky Boy’s Confusion at Reggie’s Rock Club.  Chicago is bursting at the seams with events and stores to check out.  For those interested, here is a good listing of where’s and when’s.

I can remember the first LBC song I heard, when I heard it, and who got me into them.  This was the song, it was at the Marine Corps Air/Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, California (in the middle of the Mojave desert) and it was a friend of a then-boyfriend who had this song on a mix cd.  The mix cd itself was only just okay and he rarely switched it out in his car for something else.  This was the only song on the album that didn’t irritate me.  Wait, that’s not true– there was an acoustic version of Bush’s “Glycerin” and Blink 182’s “Dammit” on there.  The rest of it I’ve long since forgotten.

This month I met up with two people I originally became acquainted with online and in doing such I attended my first show at Lincoln Hall (for Milo Green) and Schuba’s (for Restorations.)  Awesome shows and meeting up with friends is one of my favourite things in the world.  Life is weird and that’s often a good thing.

Met up with Ben after their show at Schuba’s. They played a great set.

What Is Record Store Day (RSD)?

“This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet & greets with artists, parades, djs spinning records and on and on.” – via recordstoreday.com

In other words, RSD is something for music geeks of all kinds and vinyl junkies to get stoked about all over the world.  I’m spending RSD in the city of Chicago and picking up Dave Hause’s Home Alone EP before heading over the Reggie’s later in the evening for the Lucky Boy’s Confusion show.

When Is It?

This year it is on Saturday, April 18th. RSD is held annually on the third Saturday in April. Check with your local record stores for their hours of operation.

Who Is Releasing Music?

You can view the United States’ official release list here or download the printer-friendly pdf copy from their website. Keep in mind that if you’re hunting for particular purchases it is recommended that you call your local shops in advance.  Not all stores are carrying every release.

Note: I’ve only linked the U.S. list here, if you live internationally, visit their website for a list of your country-specific releases.

Where Can I Go?

Since it’s a worldwide event you can find your participating store near you with their handy dandy locator.

Summertime is the perfect time to remind ourselves to embrace every day to the fullest. Always be evolving and seeking that inner wealth – you have the strongest tool of all: your heart.

Nobody is certain of where their ship will sail them but we might as well steer it in a direction where we will be happiest.

Warped Tour 2013

Here’s a few shots from Warped Tour in Mountain View, CA on 6.22.2013. I had an amazing day, saw about fourteen bands, three of which were new to me, and got to see one of my favorite musicians (and hear a couple of his new songs.)
